The RT (Revolutionary Technology) is a completely newly developed fire truck with an electrical drive for use in urban settings.
The total redesign of the vehicle architecture, which was made possible by the new drive technology, offers many improvements for the deployment of the fire truck on the scene.
The innovative drive concept, with electric motors for driving and pump operation, makes it possible to handle the majority of operations in purely electric operating mode. For continuous operations or increased performance requirements, a range extender is used, which also meets the requirements for disaster safety. The more pleasant work environment and, in particular, the reduction of noise and exhaust gases on the scene not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions, but also the stress levels for the crew. The electric drive system also promises flexibility in the arrangement of components, and the associated shift in the vehicle’s center of gravity. Top-notch driving performance is also important for emergency vehicles, where the performance of the electric drive motors paired with the permanent all-wheel drive and the electronic braking system are particularly impressive in terms of driving dynamics and safety.
Another technical highlight of this vehicle is the chassis with an adaptive air suspension with four selectable ride levels, which enables the right underaxle clearance for all everyday situations. The maneuverability of the vehicle should also be emphasized. A compact design with a vehicle width of 2.35 m in combination with a large steering angle on the driven front axle produce impressive turning circles. This can be significantly reduced again by the switchable additional rear axle steering for perfect agility in the tightest of spaces.
Another special feature is the ergonomic design with the comfortable crew cab entrance, as well as the good accessibility for equipment in the equipment compartments. This means that the risk of accidents can be reduced because, additionally, full height locker steps and roof access ladders are no longer required with this vehicle concept.
The new design of the fully integrated cab, with the unification of the driver’s cab with the crew cab, improves communication, especially on the approach to operations. In addition, the room can also be used as a command center for operational meetings, as the swiveling front seats allow for a conference arrangement.
The digitalized and networked vehicle is already ready for future operational scenarios and vehicle management. To do this, the vehicle sets up its own Wi-Fi network and is connected to the operational site and the operational leader’s tablet or can be used for other equipment for the wireless control of robots and drones.
