Trento and Bolzano are autonomous provinces and thus unique in Italy. Amongst the tasks the province is undertaking independently is fire protection and, as a result, servicing the fleet of vehicles purchased for this purpose. The province of Trento has fifteen valley collectives with a total of 239 volunteer fire departments, who work closely together in terms of fire protection.
With the support and coordination of the autonomous province of Trento, nine of these Trentino valley collectives submitted a tender for the purchase of nine hydraulic platforms in 2015, which required an absolutely innovative design due to the special features needed. Rosenbauer Rovereto emerged as the winner and was entrusted with the design and manufacture of these truly unique machines, which were delivered in November 2017.
The B34 is the first hydraulic platform on the market with a working height of 34 m and a carrying capacity of 500 kg (5 persons). It is mounted on a Scania truck body, which is well known for its robustness and power (320 hp), is extremely compact, and has a total weight of 18 t; properties with which it can easily maneuver on the steep and very narrow mountain roads of the region of Trentino. The driver’s cab can accommodate three operators, and over 320 kg of fire-fighting equipment can also be carried. Rosenbauer was able to present solutions which finally convinced the nine communities and was awarded this important contract.
The hydraulic platform B34 is the newest product in Rosenbauer’s hydraulic platform stable, whose production facility for this type of machinery is actually located in Trentino, in Rovereto. This laid the cornerstone for a new generation of hydraulic platforms that are currently being planned and for which, like the B34, Swedish manufacturer SSAB’s thin, high-strength sheet steel will be used for the telescopic boom, which, in combination with other innovative technologies developed by Rosenbauer, guarantees truly unique performance and versatility.
